Year 2008
Year 2007
In July, during the third edition of the 'Didjinoz' festival, I attended a workshop held by Stephen Kent. Mr. Kent didn't expound any particular technique, but talked about his own approach to the didjeridoo from a human and philosophical point of view. Nevertheless, this workshop was very important for me. Having probably put a bit too much emphasis on technique, my progress as a didjplayer had got kind of stuck. Thanks to that workshop, I realized that technical skills are of course very important, but they should never prevail upon instinct and the mere pleasure of playing just for the sake of it.
On the same occasion, I attended an excellent workshop held by Jeremy Cloake, who expounded on various traditional 'Hard Tongue' techniques and how to incorporate them within a contemporary context.
Year 2006
In early June, I attended an atypical, two-day workshop held by Andrea Ferroni. Among the subjects discussed: horn tones and related techniques, various breathing techniques, throat techniques, overtone clearness and strenghtening, sound dynamics etc.
In July, during the second edition of the 'Didjinoz' festival, I attended a workshop held by Simon Mullumby. He expounded on the use of the tongue (applied to various phrasings) to creat super-fast rhythm patterns.
In October, I attended a workshop held by Dutch female player Ljes Beijerinck. Among the subjects discussed, the 'wobble' and 'double jaw' techniques.
Year 2005
In July, during the first edition of the 'Didjinoz' festival (held in the ancient citadel of the town of Forlimpopoli), I attended a workshop held by White Cockatoos' member Darry Dikarma. He expounded the basics of the 'Gunborrk' traditional style. On the same occasion, I attended two workshops held by didjeridoo 'legend' Mark Atkins. Main subject: creating rhythm patterns with various and different time signatures and accents.
Between October and December, I attended twelve rhythm solmization lessons held by jazz pianist Giordano Alberti.
